We’re excited to announce this year’s Roadshows, open to anyone interested in entering a Northern Writers’ Award, or looking to learn more about writing and opportunities in the North. This year, we’re running themed panel events, held digitally via Zoom Webinar.
Tuesday 8 February, 6.30-7.30pm
This roadshow is for anyone interested in writing for children. It will highlight the Hachette Children’s Novel Award, run as part of the Northern Writers’ Awards, which offers publication for a middle-grade novel and an advance of £5,000 to be set against royalties. The session will also share advice and support for writers who are looking to develop their work and enhance their knowledge of opportunities and professional networks.
This event will be chaired by Rebecca Wilkie, Senior Programme Manager for Festivals and Events at New Writing North. Expert speakers include Lena McCauley, Senior Commissioning Editor at Hachette Children’s Group; Isobel Gahan, Associate Agent at Curtis Brown; Michael Mann, the author of Ghostcloud; and James Harris, whose novel The Unbelievable Biscuit Factory won the first Hachette Children’s Novel Award in 2019.
This Roadshow will be hosted on Zoom Webinar. Attendees will not have their camera or microphone on but there will be the opportunity to ask the panelists questions should you want to. The event will also be recorded and available to watch on our YouTube channel afterwards.
The Northern Writers’ Awards are produced by New Writing North with support from Northumbria University, Arts Council England and a range of industry partners. The awards support work-in-progress by writers based in the North of England.
