Sophie F Baker is a poet based in Gateshead who is inspired by the indefatigably poetic nature of ordinariness. She has had work published in magazines such as Smiths Knoll, The Rialto, Poetry London, Iota, Horizon Review and Pomegranate, and occasionally reviews poetry too. In 2010 she was awarded the Andrew Waterhouse Award by New Writing North for her poetry, and in 2012 was a recipient of an Eric Gregory Award from the Society of Authors. She has performed her work at events and festivals around the country including Morden Tower, the Lit & Phil, Trashed Organ, StAnza, Ledbury Poetry Festival – and on BBC Radio 4.
She was a poet mentor on the pilot year of Well Versed, where she worked with teachers to aid their understanding of writing and creating poetry in a way that would help to shape their own teaching practice and have a lasting impact on the poetic education of their pupils. She was also a Poet Shadow on the national Shake the Dust project, run by Apples and Snakes.
She has worked at Mslexia for a number of years and is compiling her first collection.
