Born in Cumbria, Katie Hale is the author of a novel, My Name is Monster (Canongate, 2019), which was shortlisted for the Kitschies Golden Tentacle Award and has been translated into German, Italian and Turkish. She has also written two poetry pamphlets: Breaking the Surface (flipped eye, 2017) and Assembly Instructions (Southword, 2019 – Munster Chapbook Prize winner, 2019). She is a former MacDowell Fellow, and has undertaken a number of residencies in the UK and internationally. Her poetry has won the Buzzwords, Jane Martin, and Ware Poetry Prizes, and has twice been shortlisted for the Manchester International Poetry Prize. She has also written for theatre and immersive digital performance, has featured on national radio and television, and is an experienced workshop leader. She is currently working on a first full-length poetry collection and a second novel.
