We accept literary short fiction, literary genre short fiction, short narrative non-fiction.
The writing itself does not need to be about or set in the North.
Submissions must be self-contained and complete, and not an extract.
Writers must currently live full-time in the North of England. The North of England is defined as the areas covered by Arts Council England in Yorkshire, North East and North West. We regret we are unable to accept submissions from outside these areas due to conditions in our funding from Arts Council England.
The work must not have been previously published in any form online or in print, and must be an entirely original creation of the author to which they own all rights.
The author submitting must not be currently represented by an established literary agent. Those who are currently represented by an established literary agent should request that their agent contact Dead Ink directly through the usual channels about submitting their work.
Your entry should be a maximum of 5,000 words.
To be eligible submissions to the awards must have been made by 11:59pm on 6 February 2020. Submissions received after this point in time will not be eligible for entry.
