Karen Laws has been writing for television since winning the BBC’s Northern Exposure comedy competition in 2002 and in 2007 took part in the BBC’s Writers’ Academy. She’s written for television shows including EastEnders, Casualty, Holby, Stella, 32 Brinkburn Street, Shameless, Waterloo Road and Shakespeare and Hathaway. She was co-writer in residence for radio 3’s Free Thinking Festival and has worked with the Royal Court and Live Theatre. She has an Arts Foundation Award for comedy writing and an MA in Creative Writing from Northumbria University. She lives in Newcastle upon Tyne.
