We are delighted to announce the 2013 Northern Writers’ Awards, which will be officially launched at an event in Manchester as part of Manchester Literature Festival. To introduce the awards, previous winners Mari Hannah and Dan Smith, will be in conversation with New Writing North chief executive Claire Malcolm. Mari Hannah’s first crime novel was The Murder Wall, which was a Waterstones Book of the Month when it was published in April 2012. The next novel in the series that features the detective Kate Daniels, Settled Blood, is out in November 2012. She won a Northern Writers’ Award in 2010. Dan Smith’s novels include Dry Season, which was shortlisted for the Authors’ Club Best First Novel of 2011 and nominated for the IMPAC Dublin Literary Award, Dark Horizons, and The Child Thief, which was published in spring 2012. Dan won a Northern Writers’ Award in 2006.
